Third Degree/Reiki Master

This is taught as an apprenticeship and will be arranged on an individual basis. Students will be initiated at Reiki Master upon completion of this apprenticeship.

Basic Animal Communication

This class is taught in two parts. In the first class, you will learn how to telepathically communicate with animals in your life. We will discuss how animals try to communicate with us, how they process signals and messages we give them everyday, and how to communicate with them with greater clarity rather than in ways that they find confusing. We will practice communicating with animals in person and across distances. In the second class, we will deepen our understanding, skills, and experience communicating with animals both in person and across distances, as well as work on developing our skills as communicators, exercises for staying grounded, objective, and connecting with a clear channel, how to stay neutral in order to receive the information or messages being given by the animals, and more.

Advanced Animal Communication

In this class, we will expand upon the skills learned in the basic classes as well as begin to explore communicating with wild animals and animals in Spirit. Prerequisite: Basic Animal Communication I and II.

Energetic Movement for Kids

This is a 7 week class which meets once a week. Each week we will explore movement associated with the 7 different energy centers (chakras) in the body. There will be a great deal of free form and improvisation, no formal dance training is needed. The purpose of this class is to give kids the opportunity to connect with their energetic bodies and feel comfortable expressing themselves through movement in a safe, non-judgmental environment. This helps kids to really tap into their creativity, letting that energy flow through them and then be expressed in a healthy, unique way. Allowing children to have opportunities to feel comfortable being in their bodies and exploring movement which originates from within them can help build self-confidence, positive identity, and support a lifelong love of dancing. The additional benefit of this class is because we are focusing each week on movement associated with a specific chakra, they will be activating and exercising those energy centers while we dance which will help to balance their energy systems automatically.

Family Beginnings Natural Childbirth Classes

This is a 6-8 week class focusing on relaxation, making informed choices, and physical, mental, and emotional preparation for childbirth. Couples will learn about self-care and nutrition during pregnancy, abdominal breathing and relaxation, exercises to prepare for the labor and birthing process, positive communication, the physiology of labor and birth, the stages of labor and how to support a woman in labor, physical and emotional signposts, emergency childbirth, creating a positive environment, breastfeeding, and much more.

Nia Fitness

This class meets regularly and in various locations throughout the week. Please check the class schedule page or visit www.nianow.com/Alyson-Young for updated information on where and when these classes are held. These classes are taught in a traditional fitness class format using choreographed Nia routines to move through a low impact, comprehensive cardio and strengthening routine. This class is appropriate for anyone, regardless of current fitness "level" or skill, as each movement can be taken to the athletic level or depth that feels appropriate for each individual. Each routine has a particular focus and is choreographed intentionally to be comprehensive, engaging all parts of the body (large and small muscles groups, joints, upper body, lower body, core, extremities, even fingers!), stimulate and integrate left and right sides of the brain, and increase balance, coordination, grace, and somatic learning. These routines also include practicing the awareness and exploration of the 5 Sensations in Nia: Flexibility, Agility, Mobility, Stability, and Strength.

Nia FreeDance (for adults)

This class is offered as an 8-week series or as a weekend workshop. FreeDance is not actually about "dance" in the traditional sense, but rather it is about exploring your own body's unique way of moving. We will work with the 8 stages of Nia FreeDance and more deeply explore body awareness, sensation, self-expression, understanding how our bodies move, working with the emotional components of movement, and much more (including opportunities to "dance"). FreeDance movement is very organic and authentic in nature. These classes can be transformative and will change your relationship with your body and movement.

Nia Kids!

This class incorporates all that Nia has to offer, in age appropriate ways. We will work with a combination of fitness and FreeDance, incorporating Nia's 52 Moves, and getting to know our bodies better through sensation, body awareness, spatial awareness, and understanding how we move (both in terms of unique individual bodies, as well as in regard to the physiological understanding of body movement like the relationship between muscles, tendons, and bones). We will practice somatic learning, building body memories through recapitulation, learn how to recognize and count the bars in the music (which helps us learn math with our bodies), create dance drawings, play games, and much more. This class is very fun and extremely beneficial for children of all ages. Students will get all the benefits of Nia (improved grace, coordination, balance, posture, etc.) but also have the opportunity to find a greater sense of familiarity, comfort, and ease in their bodies and with movement, as well as developing greater confidence in themselves as wonderful and unique individuals.

In the works: Meditation and Movement

This will be offered both as a series, and in a slightly different version, as a weekend workshop. In this class/workshop students will learn several different grounding and centering techniques, guided visualizations and meditations, and some movements to activate and engage the energetic body and auric field layers. We will practice these techniques, do some journaling and discussion, and use these exercises to explore ways to build a stronger connection with our core selves/inner spirit in order to more fully utilize that connection to contact and draw upon our own divine inner wisdom for guidance and self-healing.
